3rd EELISA Joint Call: Transforming Cities: Entrepreneurship, Social Skills, and Design Thinking
Activity selected and funded under the EELISA Joint Call #3 led by one of our EELISA Communities: IndustrialDesign4Human that will take place from 15th to 18th October 2024.
Experience an exhilarating week in Madrid, brimming with design thinking sessions, visits to innovative startups, insightful talks featuring our startups, immersive exploration of the enchanting city of Madrid, and, of course, valuable networking opportunities with talented participants from FAU, ITU, UPB, and UPM.
This event integrates entrepreneurship and social sciences with engineering, focusing on urban and societal problem-solving. Transforming Cities: Entrepreneurship, Social Skills, and Design Thinking (Innovation Week + Hackathon) offers a combination of seminars, workshops, and a collaborative hackathon to provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience during one week. This event aims to foster collaboration among students from different EELISA universities and promote the development of practical and analytical skills needed to address social problems through innovation and entrepreneurship in engineering. You will know some EELISA startup ecosystems, as well.
You will find some SEMINARS:
- Objective: To provide a foundational understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship through Design Thinking methodology, among others.
- Content: Basics of innovation, entrepreneurship, and their application in engineering projects.
Some PRACTICAL WORKSHOPS:
- Objective: To explore real-world case studies across various disciplines.
- Disciplines Covered: Industrial engineering, design, architecture, and computer science.
A collaborative HACKATHON (stakeholders + startups):
- Objective: To develop innovative solutions to specific social challenges.
- Format: Team-based, multidisciplinary approach.
- Team Composition: 10 work groups, each with 5 students and 1 mentor.
- Skills Developed: Practical and analytical skills in social problem-solving.

- Eligibility: Open to any EELISA student, regardless of their degree.
- Capacity: Limited to 50 students (travel expenses and accommodations will be covered).
- Team Formation: 10 groups, each consisting of 5 students and 1 mentor.
This EELISA activity (part of Joint Call #3) is uniquely designed to bridge the gap between entrepreneurship, social sciences, and engineering, with a primary focus on solving problems faced by cities and their societies using an interdisciplinary approach.
OPEN to any EELISA student, no matter what the degree.
It is a FACE-TO-FACE format. It is in person, at the E.T.S. Engineering and Industrial Design (Madrid, Ronda de Valencia, 3). You will work alongside other students and experts who support our EELISA communities.
In addition, it will be in the new innovation and social entrepreneurship space INNOVA HUB ETSIDI. A space for co-creation and citizen experimentation within the university community and in the fields of STEAM, Engineering, and Design.

Actividad seleccionada y financiada en el marco de la EELISA Joint Call #3 liderada por una de nuestras Comunidades EELISA (IndustrialDesign4Human) que tendrá lugar del 15 al 18 de octubre de 2024.
Experimenta una semana emocionante en Madrid, repleta de sesiones de design thinking, visitas a startups innovadoras, profundas charlas con nuestras startups, exploración inmersiva de la encantadora ciudad de Madrid y, por supuesto, valiosas oportunidades de networking con talentosos participantes de la FAU, ITU, UPB y UPM.
Este evento integra el emprendimiento y las ciencias sociales con la ingeniería, centrándose en la resolución de problemas urbanos y sociales. Transforming Cities: Entrepreneurship, Social Skills, and Design Thinking (Innovation Week + Hackathon) ofrece una combinación de seminarios, talleres y un hackathon colaborativo para proporcionar a los participantes tanto conocimientos teóricos como experiencia práctica durante una semana. Este evento pretende fomentar la colaboración entre estudiantes de diferentes universidades EELISA y promover el desarrollo de habilidades prácticas y analíticas necesarias para abordar problemas sociales a través de la innovación y el emprendimiento en ingeniería. También conocerás algunos ecosistemas de startups de EELISA.
Encontrarás SEMINARIOS:
- Objetivo: Proporcionar una comprensión básica de la innovación y el emprendimiento a través de la metodología Design Thinking, entre otras.
- Contenido: Fundamentos de innovación, emprendimiento y su aplicación en proyectos de ingeniería.
Algunos TALLERES PRÁCTICOS:
- Objetivo: Explorar casos prácticos del mundo real a través de varias disciplinas.
- Disciplinas cubiertas: Ingeniería industrial, diseño, arquitectura e informática.
Un HACKATHON colaborativo (partes interesadas + startups):
- Objetivo: Desarrollar soluciones innovadoras de retos sociales específicos.
- Formato: En equipo, enfoque multidisciplinar.
- Composición de los equipos: 10 grupos de trabajo, cada uno con 5 estudiantes y 1 mentor.
- Habilidades desarrolladas: Habilidades prácticas y analíticas en la resolución de problemas sociales.

Esta actividad EELISA (parte de la Joint Call #3) está especialmente diseñada unir el emprendimiento, las ciencias sociales y la ingeniería, con un énfasis principal en la solución de los problemas a los que se enfrentan las ciudades y sus sociedades utilizando un enfoque interdisciplinario.
ABIERTO a cualquier estudiante EELISA, sea cual sea su titulación.
