"Quantum Computing to foster sustainability: the case of researching on Decision Theory”

Modern economy and finance are based on solid grounds: the work of pioneers such as John von Neumann, Robert Aumann and John Nash. Their basic results have been fundamental for correctly understanding security, markets, and communications.

However, we live in a technological shift: the birth of strong AI and Quantum Computing, quickly embraced by financial institutions, big tech companies and the media. We think of them as promising tools to improve the performance of various tasks, reduce energy consumption, or find new sustainable solutions.

But do we understand these recent advances? Is it safe to give them to the public? In this talk, I share my worries as a quantum computing expert and advocate for more workforce in fundamental research. I do so by telling you about my experience working in the field of Decision Theory, where I contributed to "upgrading" one of the most important results: Aumann's Agreement Theorem (nature.com/articles/s41467-021-27134-6).

“Stakeholders and Sustainability: Past Experiences and Future Perspectives”

Based on past and ongoing research, the lecture will discuss opportunities for developing new knowledge regarding the intersection between stakeholders and sustainability. In the past decades, stakeholder theory has been an inseparable companion for research on corporate sustainability, corporate sustainability, and business ethics. However, more can be done to advance stakeholder perspectives on corporate sustainability conceptually and empirically. For instance, digital technologies offer new opportunities for making more comprehensive stakeholder analyses. Moreover, new sustainable business models allow for alternative stakeholder constellations across organisations and value chains.
